Notes

From the toe up (Judy’s Magic CO), and switching up the pattern for my dad’s high arch and narrow ankle. CO 24 sts, inc to 52 for the foot, with one repeat of the center instep chart.

Heel turn done as in Wendy Johnson’s toe up sock books, slip stitch heel over 25 sts, back to 52 sts for leg.

Used this technique from YouTube to eliminate the hole at the end of the heel flap. It’s like magic!

Cast off using Elizabeth Zimmerman’s sewn bind off. I think I did it too loose, but I’m waiting until I see them on my dad’s feet to know if I have to tighten it up. Could have been because I did it while watching tech/lighting/spacing rehearsals for The Classic Nutcracker in a dark auditorium.

This stitch pattern is great. It’s easy to memorize, just interesting enough to keep me thinking, and very stretchy.

I’m modeling them in a couple of photos because, while they’re definitely too big for me, my dad’s feet are proportionally almost identical to mine. In a different gauge, my Shur’tugals are done over the same number of stitches around and rounds in the foot.

23 December 2012 - They fit my dad! I may want to leave just a touch more length in the foot next time, but these are pretty near perfect.

26 January 2013 - According to Dad, they fit perfectly and are more comfortable with each wearing. I’ve already bought more of this yarn in a different color way. Now to pick a pattern!
