5/18/2017 Swatch complete and blocking
5/20/107 Swatch measures 11” wide by 2.75” high
5/21/2017 I cannot express how much I am enjoying this pattern. It is absolutely lovely… nice rhythmic knitting.
5/27/2017 Finished fourth pattern repeat -- 8.5 hours of knitting
5/30/2017 Finished fifth pattern repeat -- 9.5 hours of knitting -- two pattern repeats to go!
6/1/2017 Finished the sixth pattern repeat today - 10.5 hours of knitting.
I forgot to keep track of actual knitting time until I started the fourth pattern repeat. It seems to take 1 hour longer for each repeat…doing some very rough math, I will estimate that it requires 1 hour for each set up wedge/increase and 1.9 hours for each pattern repeat.
Therefore, a rough calculation for the set up is approximately 1 hour.
The first pattern repeat was approximately 3 hours -- 4 hours total.
The second repeat was approximately 5 hours -- 9 hours total.
The third repeat was approximately 6.5 hours -- 15.5 hours total.
The fourth repeat was actually 8.5 hours -- 24 hours total.
The fifth repeat was actually 9.5 hours -- 33.5 hours total.
The sixth repeat was actually 10.5 hours -- 44 hours total.
6/5/2017 finished seventh repeat at 12 hours --56 hours total
6/7/2017 Proofed Top Section Chart against written line-by-line instructions. Both chart and written instructions match.
Starting the Top section tonight.
I just finished row 35 on the top edge chart -- 6 hours -- 62 hours total knitting time.
I proof read through the edging and it matches the written instructions perfectly.
I think the pattern instructions for the transition from the shawl to the knitted on edging need a little bit of clarification. I understand that you are only purling the first 20 sts on the WS row and then “binding off” by knitting on the edging. The first 6 rows of the edging create a slight curve then it’s a straight shot to the end.
TOP EDGING
NEXT ROW (WS) (not charted): Purl to Edging marker (20 sts), turn
Note: you are only working a partial row. From this point, you change the direction of your knitting; binding off the shawl by purling 1 st of the edging together with 1 stitch of the main body on designated WS rows.
6/8/2017 plugging away on the edging…love how Stephannie worked out the corner turn and that six edging repeats equals one main body repeat…brilliant!
6/9/2017 Finished! Whew! Still need to block but maybe not today. Top edging required 7.5 hours -- 69.5 hours of total knitting.
6/12/2017 On the blocking wires! Over an hour to thread the wires and pin in place.
Measurements to compare with pattern dimensions:
top edge 59”
height 73”
hypotenuse 85” (When wearing the shawl, the hypotenuse becomes the top edge of the shawl.)
