GIFTED to my sister for Christmas! This almost felt like cheating since I had finished it so much earlier in the year and didn’t have to knit madly on it until midnight 12/24.

January 31, 2012: After letting it bake in my stash for some time, I took this bag of fiber, along with my hand cards, with me over Christmas. I knew this would be a hard colorway to prepare as a progression - lots of white space and very lightly dyed spots. Still, the effect was slightly stronger than I expected.

After rearranging the 38 rolags 10 different ways, I stuffed them in a bag and forgot about them until this past weekend. I then was struck with the idea of doing a color wave instead of a progression - the colors in this fiber move from creamy beige to a yellowish tan to a lilac-tinged taupe with some lavender and mauve in the middle. Once I was satisfied with the order, I then carefully numbered and tagged each rolag.

I started spinning on this Sunday evening and am aiming for a fingering weight single. There are parts that are more laceweight than I’d like, but I can live with that.

The first image gives the best idea of what the final order is - start at 3 o’clock and then go counterclockwise. I’ve spun 9 of the 38 rolags so far and I’m super-pleased.

2/2/12 - I’m now more than halfway through the rolags - maybe even 2/3rds of the way! I’m hoping to have some super spinning time Sunday night.

2/5/12 - Spun and skeined to gauge yardage and plying options - lowball estimate is 1328 (I used my niddy noddy and tied off each 50 wraps/100 yards, but may have wrapped an extra or two without counting because WINE). That’s more than enough to N-ply for this project!! I’ll start that tonight (hopefully finish it as well) before the singles lose too much energy.

The targhee is AMAZING as a lofty, woollen-spun single, though, so I’m definitely eyeing up the stash to see what other targhee might be next - I have a few other HY shop targhees to play with.

2/6/12 - Started the N-plying last night. It’s quite the set-up - the skein is on the swift and I’m plying from it, much to the amusement of the cats. They’ve behaved so far, but I’ve got at least one more night of ply-a-thon time. I always forget that supahfine singles mean long-behind plying time.

2/8/12 - Finished plying and skeined it up. 444 yards! Will soak and finish the yarn tomorrow. Finished photos soon.

3/3/12 - Cast on and started the actual knitting of the project. The yarn is fantastically squishy!!!

3/6/12 - Got to the pattern’s halfway point. I know this still needs blocking, but it’s feeling smallish to me. I thought I’d just do additional triangles until I felt like stopping, but I might just have to trust that the garter stitch will block out to a lovely shape. I weighed the cake-in-progress and I’ve got 1.8 oz left. Ruh-roh!!

3/9/12 - Halfway through the 6th section and considering ending this after 7 triangles instead of 8. Need to weight what’s left of the cake tonight. Definitely want to have enough yarn to bind-off. I considered doing a crochet bind-off, but I’m afraid that’ll not be stretchy enough. The shape of this is such that a non-stretchy bind-off might not be the worst thing, though.

3/10/12 - cast-off after 6 triangles. Blocking tomorrow.

3/11/12 - Blocking! It’s stretched to a respectable shawlette size. Hope to have some FO shots later this afternoon. This was an incredibly zippy knit and one I’d gladly knit again.
