Inspired by enemyairship’s Raccoon Mario rug. This rug will be for my boyfriend who played a lot of Zelda 2 (The Adventure of Link) as a kid. A LOT.

8/12/10: Downloaded sprites, picked my favorite, wrote up a chart in Excel, and purchased three pounds of cheap yarn. Began crocheting granny squares in brown. (Only 191 more to go.)

8/15/10: About 50 granny squares in, and stitching them together as I go. Will start weaving in ends, too. I should also buy another pound of brown yarn.

8/17/10: Have most of the upper-left (sword and hands) done. (I changed the color of the sword to a light blue to avoid the skin-colored sword, iff’n ya know what I mean.) Simply Soft makes for a really wobbly edge, so I’m thinking about trying to neaten that up a little when it’s done. Also had to use a larger hook on the Simply Soft to get the same size square.

8/22/10: The sword and hands part has been completely stitched together, although the remaining tails still need to be woven in. (It looks good with the blue.) I am officially halfway done with making brown squares!

8/27/10: Stitched another strip onto one of the main pieces, then took the time to weave in all of the ends that weren’t on an edge to be worked.

9/3/10: Just over three weeks in, and (if I haven’t miscounted anything) 73.45% of the squares are complete. Stitching has not gone as quickly; there’s plenty of time to make squares between classes and on the bus to and from school, but my time at home has been limited by school work.

9/8/10: Working more on stitching squares together; about 1/3 done with that (and 83% through making the squares -- only 56 squares left to make!). I’ve divided the chart into three sections to make the piecing easier.

9/14/10: If I haven’t messed up the counting, all of my squares are done. I’ve been steadily stitching them together, first in strips, and then the strips into sections. I’ve divided the rug up into three sections (head, torso, and feet) so it wouldn’t be too hard to control near the tops/bottoms of the strips. Once I’m done piecing the strips together, I’ll put the three sections together. Exciting times ahead!

9/22/10: Spent the past week moving, so project-time has been limited to bus-commute and between-class time. It looks like I’ve messed up the counting minimally, but in my favor. I have a few extra squares floating around, and just two columns left to make and stitch on to the top section before I can get to assembling the whole thing and weaving in the ends!

9/23/10: The rug is assembled! It’s time to make with the weaving to finish it up!

10/3/10: Haven’t done shit in over a week! Ack!

10/5/10: Started weaving in the 39857835 tails. This is my Knit Night project for the foreseeable future!

11/18/10: I just finished weaving in the very last of the ends. Our anniversary is in two days! :D
