Looking at yarns, wpi etc. Designer has kindly allowed me thicker yarns, so this is 9/10wpi, close to worsted weight, wool, and 300grammes is what I have at hand in three skeins in saturated brown, purple and maroon colours. Since shawl is knitted ‘bottom up’, there are other opportunities (read more skeins) in the stash that may surface. Yarn is spun with high ply twist to create a spongy ‘round’ yarn.
Mulling over needle choices and stitch definitions.

Casting on after some delays! Unfortunate but here I am heart. I knit in a slightly unusual way, it is known as Combined Knitting technique. The pattern is on reverse stockinette background, so the purls are easy stitches, yes, I know so many struggle with a reverse stockinette background created by purls only, but this can be a neat trick to look into for making those purl stitches speedy and easy.

Restarting. Have had three failed attempts so far, but hey, this is why patterns are test knitted! I am attempting to use the charts and the written instructions at the same time, and struggled so far. Fourth start coming up!

April 24, 2019

Shawl finished yesterday, feedback given today to the designer. Blocking, tallying of yardage etc to come as soon as we are back. Still holidaying! And it has some amazing colours!

April 25, 2019

Blocking, currently more than 2.5 metres across. Ran out of blocking space and pins.

April 26, 2019

More photos! So far unblocked. 230 grammes hand spun 2 ply worsted yarn used, size 5 needle, approximately 500 metres. More photos to come of blocked shawl. Blocked measurements; It is currently more than 3 metres wide and 65 centimetres deep.

Finished! Now with blocked piccies from Angaston, in the Barossa. Yup, still wearing the Purl Code sweater, so wearing two of my latest test knits!

May 22, 2019

Update! Not the softest cuddliest yarn, but shawl is wide enough for a multiple layer comfortable ‘wind’, around my upper torso. Or wear crossed and knotted. Very subtle colours, changes, love handspun!
