Prep notes: Pattern gauge is 5 spi on size 6, but I like the drape of KnitMary’s, and she made hers on size 7 and she knits loose. So my target is 4-4.5 spi?

To Racer Back or not to Racer Back…that is the question. Some cast on 68 or 72 sts; KnittingSwede decreased every 8th round. Laura did a garter back; I think something other than stockinette--maybe with more fabric integrity? would be good.

2012.07.27: Cast-on 68 sts on size 8; worked back in seed stitch, decreasing every 8th row until 38 sts remain.

2012.07.29: Octagon circumference is 256 sts. 256 - 68(base) - 38(top) = 150. For the arm openings, I did a backward loop cast-on, 75 sts each side. (Actually 73, using Techknitter’s trick of picking up a stitch on each side in the next round).

Instead of wrap-and-turn, doing German short-row technique to switch direction.

2012.08.05: Completed last increase row in pattern as written, but I think I need more. Row gauge should be 25 rows in 4 inches, but I have 28 rows. That’s 12% more, so I’ll do 23 increase welts instead of 21, and end with a total of 28 welts instead of 25.
