print chart on A3 or enlarge A4 print by maybe 150%.

take care to not trap yarn at the same place in subsequent rows bc you get a column effect. worth marking on chart where have trapped yarn.

in this design, there are lots of blocks of 4 sts. although pattern recommends to trap yarn every three sts, i only did this on long stretches. where it was a block of only 4 sts, i stranded across.

4 may 14 - time to stop. getting gauge of bw 9.5 and 10.5 sts per inch so still a bit large. need to drop down yet a needle size? and am still unsure about the colour combo.
3 may 14 - tried size large, not getting gauge, just the hem facing on 2mm needles was way too big. tried size medium. hem facing on 2mm still too loose but continued with charts anyway on 2.25mm needles to see what happens. closer to gauge but i think not quite. would possibly need to use 2mm needle for chart and smaller again for facing. this might be just swatching bc am actually finding the colour combination a bit much - will see what it looks like in daylight. i could also try the pink with dark blue instead. also wonder how much the charcoal is going to bleed bc it is one of the indigo-dyed colours and has rubbed off a bit on my fingers.
