This colourful slouchy hat and long cowl are worked in the round using the stranded knitting technique. The cowl is a straight tube and the hat has decreases to create the crown. An optional pompom can be added to the hat. The stranded colourwork pattern is worked from a chart where one square represents one stitch and all rounds are read from ...
Knitting: Cowl
Soft, warm, light but with structure. Is this possible? I think so!
Knitting: Cowl
All of the fun of Fair Isle, none of the fuss! This mosaic patterned cowl never uses more than one colour at a time and achieves its looks by utilising slipped stitches.
Knitting: Cowl, Scarf
Is it a cowl? Is it a scarf? Well, yes, it’s both!

Knitting: Cardigan
My inspiration for this cardigan was the style of Hollywood stars from the late 1950s on the French Riviera, although the pattern is named for an area on the South coast of England known as the “English Riviera”.
Knitting: Cloche Hat
Esme is a quick to knit hat that gives you two looks in one. Worn on the top of the head, it’s a tam. With the cabled brim pulled down over the ears, it becomes a cloche hat. Knit at a tighter tension than recommended, the yarn makes a warm fabric, perfect for the colder weather.
Knitting: Backpack
I love all those knitted and crocheted market shopping bags I’ve seen around, but I wanted something that will still leave my hands free.
Knitting: Scarf, Fingerless Gloves
This is a super-simple scarf and wrist-warmers set suitable for men or women of any gender (!) and it knits up really quickly.
Knitting: Ankle Sock
NOTE: with no notice to me, this pattern (and the whole Magknits website) have been removed. The pattern is now available to download here.
Knitting: Ankle Sock
Inspired by the colourway of my yarn, MacIntosh, I started thinking about apples. I then remembered the tale of the English mathematician and code-breaker Alan Turing who died after eating a poisoned apple. It is said that the Apple Macintosh computer logo is an homage to this brilliant man.
Knitting: Hot Water Bottle
A pretty simple hot water bottle cover in chunky-weight yarn.
