eBook : 6 patterns

Last summer, I was invited by Mia Malone of Brambles & Me to design a collection of accessories that would showcase the natural yarns she planned on including in her 2019 Advent Calendar. Inspired by all of the gorgeous colours, I decided to create six different accessories that would feature a wide variety of techniques and constructions and which would also represent many of the attractions and landscapes found in her hometown of Newcastle upon Tyne in England. Mia then teamed up with Sarah Hird, an extremely talented, local photographer, to capture the mood and the feel of the exact same locations that inspired my designs. We hope that you enjoy knitting up these accessories and that they may inspire you to visit this university town in the northeast of England.

eBook : 10 patterns

In this collection, Lars Rains takes advantage of the vibrant colors and bulky weight of Madelinetosh’s A.S.A.P. yarn to create 10 striking designs that knit up quickly.

This funnel cowl takes its name from one of the most sublime choral compositions that I have ever had the good fortune to perform, Lux Aeterna by Morton Lauridsen.
Knitting: Cowl
This elegant cowl is named after the crystallized patterns of ice that can appear on windows during the winter. It can be worn fitted over the shoulders or draped loosely around the neck. The open lacework and slanted decreases work together to produce an accessory that will definitely be noticed.

This bottom-up funnel cowl features three basic variations of stranded textural colorwork. It can be worn pulled up over the head or folded in on itself to double its thickness. It is named after the Doppler effect, which is best known as the change in pitch that is heard when the siren of an emergency vehicle passes you by. In astronomy, howev...

Starting at the north end of Central Park and stretching up to the Harlem River, Lenox Avenue was the epicenter of cultural activities during the Harlem Renaissance. Originally named after the philanthropist James Lenox, the main thoroughfare that traverses the neighborhood of Harlem is now known as Malcolm X Boulevard in honor of the slain civ...

Whenever I would go to see a production at the Metropolitan Opera, I was always awestruck by how the chandeliers silently ascend towards the ceiling as a cue to the audience that the opera was about to start. Such drama, even before a single note is sung!

One of my favorite ways to spend a lazy afternoon in New York City is to stroll around Central Park. I would park myself on a bench and just watch people pass by. The Sheep Meadow is a beloved section of the park for New Yorkers. On any given day, you can see people lying out on their blankets or flying their kites there. It was actually home a...

Thanks to Liz Marchbein for being such a wonderful model for me.
Knitting: Scarf
This vibrant scarf with sleeves (or slarf) includes applied I-cord borders at the cuffs. The sample is worked up in Oink Pigment’s new Disco yarn, which blends Lurex and Superwash Merino to give it some extra sparkle. You will definitely be noticed wearing this when out on the dance floor!
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Many thanks to Kate Chiocchio and Nancye Bonomo of Dragonfly Fibers for the generous yarn support, as well as the wonderful opportunity to create this color palette for them.

This slouchy hat features corrugated ribbing and a subtle snowflake motif. It is perfect for those cold, winter days when you just want to bundle all of your messy hair into a warm, woolen hat and still look stylish.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This striped garter stitch shawl uses five contrasting colors of sportweight yarn to create a stylish wrap that can be worn in a variety of different ways.
Knitting: Cowl
Kajagoogoo is named after a British New Wave band who had a one-hit wonder with the song “Too Shy” back in 1983. This cowl is divided into three sections and all you need to do to keep track of the stitch pattern is to sing the chorus of this classic track over and over again. (Seriously.)

The effect of the Coriolis force is an apparent deflection of the path of an object that moves within a rotating coordinate system. The object does not actually deviate from its path, but it appears to do so because of the motion of the coordinate system.
Knitting: Poncho
All women have the right to feed their babies wherever they want. However, some mothers might prefer to maintain an extra layer of privacy while doing so. Dulce con Leche is a loose-fitting poncho that serves a double purpose. Not only will it keep you warm on those first few, chilly days of fall, it can also be used as a cover by nursing mothe...
Knitting: Cowl
This double-knit cowl makes use of six different shades to create a gradient effect reminiscent of storm clouds. Knitting with one color and purling with another at the same time produces a reversible accessory that hides all of the stranded colorwork on the inside.
