Knitting: Poncho
This poncho couldn’t be simpler. It’s a rectangle that you seam together to create a neck opening. Knit in a cotton blend yarn, it drapes beautifully. Two sizes available; S/M or M/L
Knitting: Cowl
I wanted to design a simple and elegant cowl that you might wear while on a walk at the beach. Our local Samoa Dunes came to mind. You hold two strands of yarn together for this design, a strand of a cashmere blend yarn and a lace weight merino. To make a looser cowl you can add stitches, just be sure to add in multiples of 10.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The inspiration for this shawl was Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Pi shawl. I wanted to use a couple of interesting lace stitch patterns in a drapey alpaca/merino blend yarn. You can knit this shawl in one color or use up stash yarn and do a multi-colored version.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
Fair Isle is a favorite of mine. I wanted to design a child’s hat using this pretty Fair Isle butterfly motif. If you are new to Fair Isle technique, this is a simple pattern to try.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
The inspiration for these fingerless gloves was twofold. First, the beautiful Eureka Worsted yarn from Sincere Sheep. It’s a lovely yarn and is produced and dyed in California. Second, I was fortunate to attend a presentation by Cecelia Campochiaro about her creative journey to write the book Sequence Knitting and wanted to try her technique in...
Knitting: Beret, Tam
A soft slouchy hat with a simple lace panel, this hat was designed for a local-to-me Romney wool yarn but it works equally well with your favorite Aran weight yarn. Terra from the Fibre Co., Eureka Worsted from Sincere Sheep or Malabrigo Merino Worsted are all great options.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
I designed this shawl as an introduction to shawl knitting, including elements like a garter tab cast on, center spine increases, a few different simple lace patterns and a picot bind off. I also wanted it to drape nicely over the shoulders. The final result reminded me of the butterflies that show up in my garden during the summer here in Eure...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I wanted to design a traditional ski hat with a twist. A ribbed fold up brim and pom pom make it a classic and the textured stitch add the twist. Make it in a neutral or a fun color and wear it with everything.
Knitting: Cowl
This pretty lace cowl is knit in the round from the bottom up. It calls for The Fibre Company’s Terra. It’s a beautiful yarn that is a blend of baby Alpaca, wool and silk. It’s soft, shiny and has textured nubly bits that look great in this lace pattern. The buttons are sewn on and are decorative only.
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This pattern is a modification of the Mini Mochi Fair Isle hat pattern by Sandi Rosner. The best results come by using two different colorways of Mochi Plus but you can also use two balls of the same color.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
In October of 2013, while out surfing, my husband Jay, was bitten by a great white shark. He was extremely lucky that the shark bit his leg and let go immediately. The whole experience was surreal for Jay and for our family. You know things are weird when Good Morning America is calling. Jay’s perspective was almost spiritual. He talked about h...
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This wrap is a great way to use up your stash or left-over bits of yarn from previous projects. We carried one self-striping yarn with one semi-solid or solid color but the combinations you could use are endless. The wrap is incredibly versatile too, you can wear it pinned with a shawl pin or belted or you could sew it together to make a poncho.
Knitting: Cowl
Cowls are one of my favorite projects to knit and I find them to be incredibly practical to wear. This cowl matches my Trelawney’s mitts pattern. The lace leaves are delicate and pretty.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
We recently began carrying Ozark Handspun yarn in our shop (Yarn in Eureka, CA). It’s a beautiful yarn with a great story. Created by a husband and wife team in Missouri, she dyes the fiber and he spins the yarn. Most of the skeins include bits of sparkly thread. I wanted to design something that would show off the yarn but still be an affordab...
Knitting: Poncho
My friend Connie and I used a vintage baby poncho for the inspiration for this pattern. We updated the style, making it more modern and added the cables and button closure.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This shawlette features short rows to create the shallow crescent shape and a very simple lace pattern. The elongated shape of this shawlette is versatile enough to be worn as a shawl or a scarf. The pattern has instructions for either a sport weight version or a worsted weight version, which also creates two size options. I was particularly in...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
I’ve always loved seed stitch. I wanted a hat that had all over seed stitch but with a little something extra, hence the button tab. The button tab is worked into the body of the hat, no need to sew it on later. It’s a nice little detail that I hope you’ll enjoy. The pattern includes two styles, regular and slouchy. The regular style would make...
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
This stitch pattern on this hat is unusual and will attract a lot of attention, particularly from other knitters who want to know how it’s done. We had a sample of this hat in a toddler size in our LYS and so many adults wanted to try it on that Sunni decided she had to create an adult size.
Knitting: Cowl
A bold color work design that uses slipped stitches to create the pattern. This is a good first pattern for trying color work and slipped stitches. The gauge isn’t vital but should be close. You wouldn’t want to have less than 5 stitches per inch but the Frog Tree Pediboo worsted version is closer to 5.5 stitches per inch and it works great. Yo...
Knitting: Beret, Tam
What could be better than a soft chunky lace hat? Since it’s knit with a chunky yarn, it’s a super quick knit. The Bellwether Beret is a new pattern from our line of in house pattern designs called “Sweet Shop Patterns.”
Knitting: Beanie, Toque
My eight year old is an avid knitter. He wanted to make a hat for a friend as a gift. He wanted to do more than one color, “but not stripes.” He picked out the yarn and I helped him come up with the color work pattern. He and his best buddies are pretty happy with the results.
Knitting: Fingerless Gloves
These mitts were designed as part of a collaboration between Chicken Boots, Knitted Wit and Sweet Shop Patterns in honor of the Interweave Unofficial Harry Potter Knits magazine issue.
