The color of the yarn combined with the texture of the cables got me thinking of stones and Tolkien. The Carrock is a stony eyot (a small island) in the upper reaches of the River Anduin in Tolkien lore. The name Carrock was a bit of a joke by Tolkien in that, in Anglo-Saxon, the word car means “rock”.

This top down raglan draws it’s inspiration from one of London’s famous Royal Parks. The twisting cables reminiscent of the many pathways through the lovely park. Three quarter sleeves, which could be full length if you wanted, are perfect for taking the chill off while taking a fall stroll.
Knitting: Cardigan
This top down raglan with cable and garter details, is a lovely addition to any girl’s wardrobe. The “O” cable detail runs down the front and back of the cardigan. The cable shifts, creating a v-pattern from which the pattern takes it’s name.

After finishing my Pigwidgeon Sweater, I knew almost immediately, that I wanted to make a hat with the same motif. I wanted it a little slouchy and just a tiny bit different than the sweater. So with a bit of modification, I came up with the Pigwidgeon Hat. This is available also as an ebook with the pattern Pigwidgeon Mitts.

When I thought about this sweater, the background music in my head was a song by Wilco called, “Sky Blue Sky”. So, there you go. A sweater was born. I generally start with a sketch and idea

I am not really sure why this shawlette reminds me of zombies, but it does. It could be the colors. It could be that I just have a very odd sense of humor. It could be both. I really enjoyed knitting up this shawlette. It is knit sideways with a garter body. Short rows and lace help keep this knit from being too “zombie-like”. I wanted to create...

Foster began with an idea for combining asymmetry, cables, and top-down knitting. Three thingsthat I enjoy quite a lot. Add the yarn and knitting this sweater was nothing but love!
Knitting: Cowl
This cowl is knit in the round starting at the bottom. The garter stripes in contrasting colors lead to a simple, but fun top section which includes a few bobbles separated by garter squares. The cowl also comes in two sizes: a longer infinity scarf size and a smaller, close-fitting size.

I just loved that center cable from the Abernathy sweater so much that I had to put it on a hat. There is something about working that quirky sequence that is just so much fun! This hat is knit from the brim up in a superwash dk weight yarn. It can be knit in a “cap”style or a slouchy hat style. Though make note that to get the “slouchy” style, ...

I have always loved stripes. There is just something about them that makes me happy. A couple other things that make me happy; hockey and my toddler(my other kids too, but I only had enough yarn for one sweater!!). So, when I found this yarn, it screamed at me quite literally. The blue and gold were perfect old school Buffalo Sabres colors. I ho...

“Anonymous Vampire,” came about because I bought a lovely skein of yarn in the colorway,“Tiny Bloodsucking Dancer.” The skein literally screamed, “vampire themed shawlette!!” I and my love of all things Buffy, obliged. I took the name from a Buffy website. They referred to the randomly killed vampires as, “anonymous vampire(s).” I thought ...

Rhombi, rhombuses whichever word you choose(and from what I read, they are both correct), you get what I mean, right? There are multiples. This lightweight top down raglan cardigan draws it’s name from a shape I do very much adore, the diamond. A shape that gracefully adorns the collarband.

This piece made me think of notes on a staff from the very beginning. Knit in luxurious Malabrigo Silky Merino, it flows off the needles. But still, I didn’t think “notes” would be a very good pattern name. A Cadenza is a musical term referring to a solo, sometimes improvised, appearing near the end of a musical piece. When I came upon thi...

Kinsale is a small town located at the mouth of the River Bandon in Cork County, Ireland. The yarn that I used reminded me of the very same colors in the waters off the coast of Kinsale. The twisted rib detail echoes the waves of the sea while also representing the narrow and compact streets of Kinsale.

You can never tell, as a designer, when inspiration is going to strike. I seem to have a knack for finding that certain idea in the oddest of places. The inspiration, in the case, came to me as I was washing dishes one day. I was using a cloth that I had knit very early on in my knitting career. The dishcloth was knit in a “bee stitch̶...
