Knitting: Baby Blanket
This scale-patterned baby blanket was inspired by the two main characters of Robin McKinley’s novel Dragonhaven: Jake, a human teenager, and Lois, the orphaned baby dragon he adopts and raises. I like to imagine that if Lois had allowed herself to be wrapped in a blanket occasionally, she would have appreciated one like this.
Knitting: Scarf, Shawl / Wrap
Designed for a set of mini skeins, this pattern is perfect for a yarn crawl or a drive through any scenic countryside. The detailed work – two leaves peeping out at the neckline – happens at the beginning of the project so you can finish the fiddly bits before leaving the house, and then transitions into colorful but relaxing garter-stitch rows...
Knitting: Hair accessories, Headband
Use up leftover yarn with this wee leafy headband! No buttons or snaps are required; just tie the ends together under your hair. The garter-stitch fabric will stretch significantly without blocking.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
The clover and tiered-leaf motifs of this large lacy shawl are meant to evoke the meadow and Party Tree where Bilbo and Frodo Baggins celebrate their shared birthday in the first chapter of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
Knitting: Scarf
This scarf is meant to showcase the short stripes of the Universal Yarn Uptown Worsted Spirit Stripes yarn. The pennant design will only work with this particular yarn.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
This leafy triangular shawl is loosely inspired by the final volume of Susan Cooper’s The Dark is Rising sequence, Silver on the Tree, and by sparkly green yarn.
Knitting: Shawl / Wrap
Every spring, one of my favorite authors publishes a new novel in her series about a family of cryptozoologists. I designed and knitted this shawl during a three-week speed-read of the previous ten books in preparation for the newest installment.
Knitting: Scarf
This striped triangular scarf was inspired by a supposedly-four-color gradient pack that included two mini-skeins almost exactly the same color. It is worked entirely in garter-stitch, using only one color at a time.
Knitting: Scarf
Express your own inner “tree self” with this leafy-but-practical scarf, inspired by the eponymous heroine of Robin McKinley’s novel Sunshine.
