I have been designing knitwear since I can knit, since 1968. I never liked following a pattern, I had my own vision of how things should look. My first published design is the Delft Blue hat, the hat that won the third price in the prestigious RijksStudio Award 2014, in the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
I like the puzzle of making an idea work in yarn, and I like the puzzle of writing up a pattern. I love it when people knit my designs, and I love wearing my own knitted clothes.

Knitwear design is something that suits my current life. I’m a maker, I’ve always been one, but I’m also chronically ill since 2010, with a particularly nasty type of sarcoidosis. Knitting helps me cope with my illness and it’s something I can do at home and in a hospital. But you will not see me a lot at yarn festivals or teaching in a yarn store, because most of the times I’m to ill to participate.

In the past, I have held positions as a teacher in information analysis, and as a teacher of computer skills in an art school. I have worked as adviser in process management, web designer, artist (fine art), midwife for cows, nurse, and as building superintendent and team leader in an addiction clinic. I know how to laugh at the expression “Jack of all trades, master of none” and I hold several degrees to back me up.
