05 Tie Side Tank
A contemporary summer tank with an open side detail and textured stitch pattern – designed for advanced beginners who love clean lines and thoughtful construction.
The 05 Tie Side Tank is a minimalist layering piece with subtle statement details. Worked flat from the bottom up in a textured single basketweave stitch, it combines modern style with wearability. Ribbed selvedge edges run along each side to create a clean finish and form the foundation for the open-tied seams.
To begin, the front is cast on using the long-tail cast-on method and worked in pattern to just below the armhole. The back is worked in the same way. Once both body pieces are complete, they are joined to work in the round for approximately 5 cm (2”) up to the base of the armhole.
At this point, short row shaping is used to shape the underarm, worked at the same time as the rib binding that forms the armhole edge. The front and back are then separated and worked flat, continuing the ribbed selvedges along each edge – so there’s no need to add armhole finishing later.
To finish, four ribbed ties are knitted separately and sewn in place to close the sides with an adjustable bow or knot. The result is a versatile, breathable piece that’s easy to wear on its own or layered, a staple for modern handmade wardrobes.
