The seamless CONTINUUM HOOD is a hybrid of a hood and a scarf, featuring a garter stitch main body and an I-Cord edge. It is worked entirely in one piece from top to bottom, without knitting on the I-Cord afterwards and without a seam at the back of the head.

The hood begins with Judy’s Magic Cast-On for the garter stitch main body, combined with a combination of Backward-Loop Cast-On and Figure-Eight Cast-On for the I-cord stitches. The I-cord stitches are turned once using a DPN at the start. Increases shape the hood, and when dividing the hood into scarf halves, a new I-Cord is formed at the neck. These newly formed I-Cord stitches are again turned once with a DPN. The two scarf halves are worked consecutively and shaped with regular decreases. To finish, you can either bind off or create a fully continuous I-Cord using the Kitchener stitch.

CONTINUUM HOOD No. 1
Uses lifted increases to shape the hood. This creates a single line of increases at the back of the head, with the lifted threads being visible on the inside of the hood.

CONTINUUM HOOD No. 2
Uses m1r and m1l increases. Feedback suggests that No. 2 is easier to knit for beginners, as these increases are more intuitive for many knitters than the lifted increases used in No. 1. The increase line is a bit broader (2 stitches between the increases in the beginning), but the difference between inside and outside of the hood is more subtle than for No. 1.

PLEASE NOTE: When working with an adjusted gauge, minor variations in scarf length and hood dimensions may occur. These can result from differences in the stitch-to-row gauge ratio compared to the standard gauge of 18 sts × 34 rows, as well as from minor rounding differences (since stitch counts must be whole numbers). With most yarns and knitting tensions, however, the ratio between stitch gauge and row gauge is similar, so the final scarf length will usually be close to the dimensions given above.

Die Kapuze beginnt mit Judy’s Magic Cast-On für den kraus rechts gestrickten Hauptteil, kombiniert mit einer Kombination aus Maschen aufschlingen und Achtanschlag für die I-Cord-Maschen. Die I-Cord-Maschen werden zu Beginn einmal mit Hilfe einer Nadelspiel-Stricknadel gedreht. Die Kapuze wird durch Zunahmen am Hinterkopf geformt. Beim Aufteilen der Kapuze in zwei Schalhälften wird ein neuer I-Cord gebildet, dessen Maschen erneut einmal mit einer Nadelspiel-Stricknadel gedreht werden. Die beiden Schalhälften werden nacheinander gestrickt und mit regelmäßigen Abnahmen geformt. Zum Abschluss entweder abketten oder mit dem Maschenstich einen vollständig durchgehenden I-Cord bilden.

CONTINUUM HOOD Nr. 1 verwendet „lifted increases“ zur Formung der Kapuze. Dadurch entsteht eine einzelne Zunahme-Linie am Hinterkopf, mit auf der Innenseite der Kapuze sichtbaren angehobenen Fäden.

BITTE BEACHTE: Bei Verwendung einer angepassten Maschenprobe kann es zu geringfügigen Abweichungen in der Länge des Schals und den Abmessungen der Kapuze kommen. Diese ergeben sich insbesondere aus Unterschieden im Verhältnis von Maschen- zu Reihenprobe im Vergleich zur Standard-Maschenprobe von 18 M × 34 R sowie aus kleinen Rundungsdifferenzen (da Maschenzahlen ganzzahlig sein müssen).
