About this design
Some heads are fussier than others when it comes knitting the perfect gift beanie. Thankfully, happy days are here because the Druthers Slouchy Beanie is fully reversible and can be styled with or without a folded up brim. The four different ways that this slouchy beanie can be worn should satisfy even the fussiest wearer. Now all you need to do is pick the perfect colour in the perfect yarn … OK, that can be tricky too but I’m not going to go there!

And in case you’re wondering what druthers means, here’s what the Oxford Dictionary has to say:

NOUN usually one’s druthers (North American informal), one’s preference in a matter:

“If I had my druthers, I would prefer to be a writer.”

Size
Small - To fit head circumference of approximately 53.3 cm/21 ins. Finished circumference equals 47cm/18 ½ ins. Design includes approximately 6.4 cm/2 ½ ins negative ease. Finished length excluding brim is 16.5 cm/6.5 ins.

Medium - To fit head circumference of approximately 56 cm/22 ins. Finished circumference equals 50.6 cm/20 ins. Design includes approximately 5 cm/2 ins negative ease. Finished length excluding brim is 19 cm/7 ½ ins.

Large - To fit head circumference of approximately 61cm/24 ins. Finished circumference equals 54 cm/21 1/3 ins. Design includes approximately 6.3 cm/2.5 ins negative ease. Finished length excluding brim is 22.2 cm/8 ¾ ins.

Instructions for the two larger sizes are given in brackets.

Tension
24 st x 30 rows over 10 cm/4 inches in Brim Stitch Pattern knitted in the round using 4.00 mm (US size 6, UK size 8) circular needles and wet blocked. A close match for tension is important for this pattern in order to ensure a good fit.

Yarn
Approximately 100g of any double knit/8 ply yarn that knits to match the required tension gauge (equivalent to 200 metres/219 yards). Some 50g balls of double knit/8 ply yarn contain less than 100 metres/109 yards, so please check the label and buy an extra ball if you think that you will run short of yarn. The two smaller sizes use less than 100g of yarn, so 2 x 50g balls should be enough.

Needles
3.75 mm (US size 5, UK size 9) and 4.00 mm (US size 6, UK size 8) double pointed needles or one 40 cm/16 ins circular needle or two 61 cm/24 ins circular needles or one 80 cm/32 ins or 100 cm/40 ins circular needle or a combination of these needles.

Notions
Tapestry/darning needle.
Stitch marker.
