Jeremiah
Jeremiah the frog in a jumper/sweater.
This is an INTERMEDIATE crochet pattern, as it involves surface crochet and shaping could be confusing for beginners. This cushion is designed to be an eccentric frog cushion that is supportive, customisable and fun.
This cushion is worked in the row, designed to sit flat rather than be round, and is made as a single piece. The example includes some fun colour changes and additions, but feel free to customise it and get inventive! The stitches used are single crochet, half double crochet, double crochet, chains, slip stitches, increases and decreases. It is written in US terms and the measurements provided are in cm.
Abbreviations and stitches:
Magic circle – If you struggle with a magic circle, you can always chain 3, and then work the stitches required into the 3rd chain from hook. It will leave a tiny hole though.
Ch= chain
Sc= single crochet (Pro tip! If you do a yarn under sc rather than a yarn over sc, the gaps between stitches will be smaller and hence hide the stuffing better)
Slst= slip stitch
Sc2tog = single crochet 2 stitches together/decrease
Hdc = half double crochet
Dc = double crochet
Tr = treble crochet
STSC/stsc = stacked single crochet
trSTSC/trstsc = triple stacked single crochet (so that there are 3 sc stacked on top of each other, equivalent to a treble stitch)
sk = skip
Yarn: Two strands held together:
Aran weight/10ply yarn acrylic, 600m.
Dk weight 8ply cotton blend, 600m.
I used two greens held together for the frog, and rainbow held with pink for the jumper, and some purple for the detailing.
I have added cotton in this pattern, as it limits the stretch and distortion with stuffing, which can allow for a very ‘dense’ cushion if you like a firmer cushion.
Hook size: 5.75mm and 3mm hooks
I tend to crochet tightly though, please use a hook required to create stitches small enough to hide most of the stuffing! Cushions are a lot more forgiving than amigurumi though, so I don’t tend to crochet as tight for my cushions as I do for my Ami.
Gauge: 14st x 14rws = 10cmx10cm
Finished Flat Measurements: 35cm x 30cm
You will need stuffing, scissors and a yarn needle. There are also gorgeous safety eyes you can use, but please be advised it may not end up super comfy if you use them!
