Lacy Cable Headband
Introductory price until Sunday October 11.
The Lacy Cable Headband grew from a request from my sisters-in-law for yet another companion to the Lacy Cable Comfort Scarf.
The headband combines shaped ear coverage with the Lacy Cable and Tree Trunk stitch pattern and my modular approach to fit. It is wider where warmth is needed – around the back of the head and over the ears – while becoming lighter and narrower across the forehead.
The result is a light, airy headband with a soft halo, shaped to follow the contours of the head.
The headband is worked as a continuous double-knitted tube, without a visible wrong side. It begins at the center back with a provisional cast-on and is joined at the end using grafting for a continuous finish.
You may follow one of the 4 reference sizes or adapt the headband to your own head. Natural head landmarks serve as checkpoints, allowing you to adjust the length around the back of the head and across the forehead as you knit.
YARN CHOICES & SUBSTITUTION
The headband can be worked with different yarn and fiber combinations. The beige version shown here is worked with DROPS Flora + LANG Cashmere Dreams, creating a particularly soft fabric with a light halo.
You can choose other combinations to suit the fabric and budget you prefer. For a cost-conscious alternative, replace the cashmere companion yarn with lace-weight alpaca, or use a single strand of yarn that gives the same gauge and a suitable fabric.
I also worked a version in DROPS Cotton Merino, using one strand only. It gives the same gauge with a soft and elastic fabric. Only 1 skein needed.
JOIN ME ON MY FIBER LEARNING JOURNEY
When substituting yarn, consider both gauge and fiber characteristics. Along the way, I invite you to join me on my learning journey, exploring how construction, shaping and fiber choices influence the fit, feel and character of the finished headband.
I hope you enjoy the comforting rhythm of knitting the Lacy Cables as much as I enjoyed exploring the anatomy and shaping behind this little project.
