Make your own Liopleurodon! The Liopleurodon was a fierce predator of the ancient Jurassic seas. With its huge mouth lined with sharp teeth and enormous body, this hunter patrolled the ancient seas around 166 to 155 million years ago.

Pattern includes instructions for two versions: a multi-color Liopleurodon using tapestry crochet, and a solid color Liopleurodon with a belly applique. The 74 page pattern includes detailed step-by-step photos and clear written instructions to make an amigurumi-style Liopleurodon. PLUS there is a 28 page printer-friendly TEXT ONLY version at the end of the pattern. This pattern has been fully tested by multiple testers. Includes yarn amounts and hook sizes to make a Liopleurodon using Worsted weight yarn.

Recommended for ADVANCED SKILL LEVEL. This pattern uses unusual construction techniques to create the open mouth. These are supplemented by detailed instructions and photographs. The multi-colored version of the Liopleurodon also uses colorwork/tapestry crochet. This pattern does not provide a tutorial for the basics of colorwork/tapestry crochet.

A finished Liopleurodon made using Worsted Weight yarn is approximately 19” long from nose to tail, 4.5” tall from back to belly, and 17.5” wide from flipper to flipper.

To make a Liopleurodon using Worsted weight yarn you will need:
Red/Pink (mouth): 9.5 yds
White (teeth): 4 yds
Note: The yarn for the mouth and teeth should be only as thick as, or even a bit thinner than, the yarn for the rest of the body.
For multi-color:
Dark Color (dorsal aspect of body/back): 150 yds
Light Color (ventral aspect of body/belly): 140 yds
For solid color:
Body Color: 250 yds
Belly Color: 30 yds
G (4/4.25mm) crochet hook (or preferred amigurumi hook)
One pair of 15mm plastic safety eyes
Poly-fil or other stuffing
Darning needle
Stitch markers
Optional: 3 pieces of 18-gauge 18-inch paper wrapped floral wire
