About Manderley Mitts:

Looking for a unique gift for someone special or an on-the-go project that isn’t socks?
These elegant fingerless mitts work up surprisingly fast. The panel of twisted cable ribs flow naturally up the back of the hand, akin to vines of ivy climbing up a trellis or brick wall, which gives a sense of sophistication to a fairly simple project. This natural touch reminded me of the main character’s description of Manderley in Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.
This project is suitable for comfortable beginners or someone wanting an easy project to travel with, as there isn’t a cable needle to keep track of! While I prefer a 9” circular needle or DPNs, this project can easily be completed with the magic loop method.

Sizing:

Sizes: Teen/Adult S (Adult M, Adult L)
Circumference: 6.6” (7.2”, 7.75”) at mid-palm, unstretched

Skills:

  • Long tail cast on
  • Working in the round
  • Knit stitches
  • Purl stitches
  • Right Twist stitch (including knitting two together)
  • Increase using m1R/m1L
  • Standard cast off

Gauge:

29 stitches x 36 rounds in stockinette stitch / 4”

Materials:

  • 36 (40, 44) g / 130 (144, 158) m / 142 (154, 170) yds of Sport Weight Yarn
  • Green and Gold samples were knit using Lichen and Lace Rustic Heather Sport, a single-ply, minimally processed sport. Blue/gray sample was knit using Kroy Sock yarn. (Note: Kroy Sock yarn is inconsistent in its size. If you choose to use it, look for one that seems too thick for socks.)
  • Size US 2 needles (2.75mm) - either 9” circular, dpns, or 24”+ circular needles, or size to achieve gauge
  • Tapestry or other large-eyed needle
  • 2 stitch markers

A Note Regarding Yarn:

All yarn measurements are for the finished products, with exact grams and 1-2m/yds added for flexibility. I use these exact measurements to encourage knitting from your stash or using repurposed yarn as much as possible. This amount does not include swatching.
