Maple Cowl Scarf

Beginner knit long ridged scarf designed for Sirdar’s Loveful Tweed yarn, a double-knitting, DK weight yarn made from recycled fibres available in a range of subtle colours including ‘Maple’ (pictured).

Materials required:
1 ball of Sirdar Loveful Tweed makes a scarf that is 40.5” in length (see third picture). For a scarf that loops around twice, 2 balls are required.
A pair of 4 mm knitting needles
A tapestry needle
(Optional) A crochet needle if using the provisional cast on/Kitchener method of joining
(Optional) An additional needle if using the three needle method of joining

There are photo-illustrated guides to the provisional cast on and three needle bind off methods. I have found youtube videos on the Kitchener grafting technique very useful but have not attempted to summarise it in print as I think it is best described in a video tutorial.

Wool choice: the pattern is designed for DK yarn, but may work well with slightly finer or thicker yarns such as 4-ply/fingering and aran/worsted weight yarns. The pattern includes details of suggested needle size and number of cast on stitches for 4-ply, DK and aran-weight yarns with this in mind.
