Moorlands Embrace
Lots of squishy texture and just-one-more-round stripes, all knit up in some of your yummiest shades and you have this highly versatile, handy, fun little knit!

This shoulder hugging Cowl is knit up in soothing striped Moss stitch (2 Rounds of K1 P1 to BOR followed by 2 Rounds of P1, K1) providing texture in heather shades to represent the colours and textures of the moorland landscape that inspired the original pattern (The Moorlands Romance Shawl is also available). After being joined in the round and working a section even, you will then make regular KFB increases to increase width and form a size adjustable shape that will be able to wrap around your shoulders. This takes it from a snuggly cowl to simply wrap around your neck, to a piece that you can pull down over your upper arms, with even extra length added for this as offered in instructions, to keep your shoulders and upper torso warm too. With its simple construction and repeated stitch patterns it makes for an enjoyable play with colour and textures and a very useful and versatile snuggly keep warm accessory.

Knitting skills & techniques used:
Intermediate: Casting on, joining/knitting in the round, binding off, knitting, purling & KFB increases

Materials:
The following yarn usage amount is an approximate guide and is in fact a little over the actual amount I used, as I have applied an approx. 10% buffer of each ball used, plus rounded up the numbers, in view of differences between knitter’s gauge and such, and to give you a few grams room:
Requires approx. 429 yards / 392 metres DK yarn – will require more if working modifications
For the Sample I used: West Yorkshire Spinners, Illustrious
(70% Wool – Falkland & 30% Camelid – Alpaca, 100g, 245 yards / 224 meters)
in the colourways as listed below, but any wool based DK Weight yarn of choice should work fine.
Yarn A: ‘Garnet’ (Magenta), 110 yards / 101 metres
Yarn B: ‘Antique Gold’ (Gold), 147 yards / 134 metres
Yarn C: ‘Mulberry’ (Purple), 172 yards / 157 metres
Needles: 4.5mm / US 7 Circular needle (40cm-80cm)
Notions: BOR marker, tapestry needle / crochet hook to weave in ends.

Gauge:
4” (10 cm) on 4.5 mm / US 7 needles (after blocking)
21 sts & 30 rounds in Moss stitch
(2 Rounds of K1 P1 to BOR followed by
2 Rounds of P1, K1)
Incorrect Gauge can affect finished measurements / yarn usage.

Finished measurements:
Circumference (at Cast on edge): 20” / 51cm (Laying Flat: 10” / 25cm)
Circumference (at widest edge): 74” / 188cm (Laying Flat: 37” / 94cm)
Depth/length: 11” / 28cm

Relating to Sizing Modifications:
You can adjust both width and size of your cowls increasing circumference and drop by following either or both modifications as listed below. You have two modification options to choose from, to get your ideal preference as they offer differing modification results.
The first modification allows you to add both width to the circumference and length to the depth, to help you customize the piece to your combined chest measurements of bust circumference + length required in drop from neck to where your bust circumference meets - like a yoke construction sweater.
The second modification allows you simply add length only to the drop of your piece without adding width, as no further increases will be made after this stage of the pattern.
There are prompts in the pattern when you reach each point where these modifications can be carried out, referring you to the full details laid out in the Notes section.
