Puuro is the Finnish word for porridge, a simple everyday food associated with warmth and home. Puuro Socks are designed to be cozy, practical, and uncomplicated—just like porridge.

Only two colors are used per round, and the floats remain short, making the simple pattern well suited for a first stranded colorwork sock project!

Any Aran-weight yarn is suitable for Puuro Socks. The sample socks are knit using three different colors, but if desired, the socks can also be made using up to five different colors.

The socks are worked cuff down in the round using five double-pointed needles. They feature a ribbing, a stranded colorwork section, a traditional reinforced heel, and a band toe.

You can easily adjust the length by adding or removing rounds in the solid-color sections after the ribbing, on both sides of the heel, or before the toe.

Yarn: Aran weight yarn (100 g = approx. 200 m / 220 yd), 3 colors

Needles: 3.5 mm (US 4 / UK 9) and 4 mm (US 6 / UK 8) double-pointed needles

Approximate yarn usage:
• Ribbing color: 40(50)60 g
• Heel color: 40(50)60 g
• Third color: 30(40)50 g

Gauge

• Ribbing: 21 sts × 26 rnds = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 in
• Colorwork: 23 sts × 26 rnds = 10 × 10 cm / 4 × 4 in

Puuro-sukkiin sopii mikä tahansa Aran-vahvuinen lanka. Mallisukissa on käytetty kolmea eri väristä lankaa, mutta halutessaan sukat voi tehdä vaikkapa viidellä eri värillä.

Sukat neulotaan perinteisesti viidellä sukkapuikolla varresta kärkeen. Sukissa on joustinneuleresori, kirjoneuleosuus, vahvistettu kantapää ja sukan kärjessä nauhakavennus.
