Recently, my husband bought a set of socks in a famous Dutch variety chain store (Hema) for our youngest daughter. Immediately, I was inspired to turn those socks into a knitting pattern! The socks had a folded cuff, which I also added to this sock pattern. My own ‘touch’ is the picot edge, simply because I loved it! And I used a heel flap and gusset, instead of a short row heel, just because I liked the fit better. This is the benefit of designing your own patterns: you can be inspired and then add as many ‘touches’ as you like.
These are the socks you can make again and again: in different colour combinations, different sizes, with or without the picot edges. Have fun playing with this pattern!

Notes:

  • This pattern is for a striped, top-down ribbed sock, with a heel flap and gusset, knit using the magic loop method of knitting in the round.
  • The cuff is folded and has a picot edge. If you don’t want the picot edge, the pattern will give you the option to leave this out.
  • Video tutorials on how to knit the folded cuff, how to twist yarns when changing colours, how to carry yarns up on the side and how to work the kitchener stitch, are provided (in Dutch; use subtitles or auto dubbing in the language of your choice, if needed).
  • New to sock knitting and/or reading an English knitting pattern? Please check out my online knitting courses, where I teach you step-by-step how to navigate through an English pattern and how to knit top down socks (Dutch only): https://www.mirjammolenbeek.nl/cursussen/

Yarn:
Sample used:

  • Filcolana Arwetta, colour 370, 50 grams (210 meters), 80% superwash wool, 20% nylon (as the main colour).
  • Filcolana Arwetta, colour 371, 50 grams (210 meters), 80% superwash wool, 20% nylon (as the contrasting colour).

Any fingering weight sock yarn will do. The largest size will use up more yarn than the smaller sizes. 100 grams total is enough yarn for knitting the socks in the largest size (size Large, European shoe size 49): appr. 65 grams in main colour and 35 grams in contrasting colour.

Needles:
2.25 mm (or size needed to obtain gauge), 80 or 100 cm circular needle.

Notions:

  • 2 stitch markers (closed, matching your needle size)
  • opening coloured stitch markers / progress keepers when you want to keep track of your rounds
  • tapestry needle for weaving in your ends
  • wool wash for washing & blocking
  • sock blockers for blocking (optional)
  • sock ruler (optional)
