These stranded color work mittens are made with one 50g skein each of two contrasting colors Drops Flora 65% wool and 35% alpaca yarn. The stranded knitting is exceptionally warm since the mittens essentially have two layers: one in the front and the other in the back of the work where the second color is carried along behind.

These mittens are inspired by Nordic style knitting and include a Latvian braid for added interest. This pattern assumes you already know how to do stranded color work knitting, a skill well worth adding to your knitting toolbox, and that you are familiar with knitting in the round and using a chart for patterning.

Separate charts are included for the left and right hand mittens. This is a fun project to practice with thumb-gussets and mitten shaping, too! The cuff adds length to protect the arm from those cold weather drafts that can creep up our coat sleeves.

Gift these gorgeous mittens to a loved one as the perfect Christmas or winter birthday gift (if you can part with them!).
