Self striping yarn is so versatile! This fun and simple beanie can be knit in a smaller skull-cap size or a larger traditional size. Any worsted yarn, not just self striping, can be used. This is an easy pattern to memorize for on the go knitting.

A whimsical pattern set that can make a beanie style hat and ear warmer. The samples are knit in Kraemer Perfection Worsted, but you could easily use leftover worsted weight yarns. It knits up quickly. The hat uses approx 75g total (about 3/4 of a skein equivalent), and the ear warmer uses approx 48g total (about half a skein equivalent).

This is a fun and interesting pattern featuring my local yarn shop The Clay Purl’s “Old Favorite Sock Yarn” in the colorway “Iris Garden”. It features “planned pooling” or “assigned pooling.” Substitute with any sock yarn that is mostly solid but has a little burst of color in the skein.

This is a great pattern for self striping or gradient yarn. Written for West Yorkshire Spinners Colourlab DK, it can easily be used with any weight of self striping or gradient yarn.

This pattern was originally created for the Roving Indiana Yarn Crawl. Our special yarn for that event was a fun self-striping sock yarn created by Brenda and Heather Yarns (local Indiana dyers) and a solid West Yorkshire Spinners solid 4 ply sock yarn, but this pattern can be made with any self striping yarn paired with any solid yarn.

This pattern uses a skein of a solid (or semi-solid) main color and three contrasting solid mini skeins. It is knit top-down, and is made in a typical adult woman’s size.
