A collection of five patterns using Malabrigo Yarns. Designed in cooperation with Malabrigo Yarn and part of the 2011 Malabrigo Freelance Pattern Project.

Shawls of Many Shapes, Book One

Shawls of Many Shapes, Book Two is a compilation of four shawl designs. N.Y.G.D. (Not Your Grandma’s Doily) is a semi-circular shape; Off Kiilter is asymmetrical; Kareena is a crescent and Arwen’s Shield is a rectangular shawl. All of them incorporate beads which are always optional but are my signature. I do love bling!

Butterflies are Free ~ a movie from long ago with Goldie Hawn ~ oh my, dating myself again.

Bright and glimmering like dew shining in the morning sun, the nupps and classic motifs make this shawl instantly recognizable as Estonian-style lace. As large and delicate as you could want, with the warmth of alpaca and the luster of silk, this exemplary shawl will satisfy even the most discerning of tastes.

Abby’s Parasol has been a dream of mine since I first saw Abby on NCIS with her black parasol. Finally I have my own!!

Cables, Lace, Ruffles and Beads Doesn’t get any better than this ♥

A wonderful tester of mine suggested making “Off Kilter” into a crescent shape. And so Kareena was born!!

Which way is up? Off Kilter is an asymmetrical shawl knit from side to side. The beginning and ending rows of the shawl have a lacy edge and they’re different!

Not your Grandma’s Doily! A semi-circular shape wraps around you and stays put! I took some stitch pattern ideas from Knitted Lace by Sonja Esbensen and Anna Rasmussen and improvised my way to the lace mesh edge.

Wedding Bliss is my 2016 wedding shawl for those special occasions.

Let’s Do the Charleston was to wear with a 1920’s style dress to a wedding. I researched the various shawl types from that era. Most had fringe or long ornate beaded edges.

Twisted stitches are featured in this triangular shaped shawl. They are a challenge but once you fall into the rhythm of those knit and purl through back loops, you’ll love and appreciate the resulting stitch definition even more!

First Shawl Design of 2016 Is Kalliope’s Shawl.

Cables and Lace together in one project, what could be more relaxing and rewarding? I put them together in a loose fitting cardigan with a shawl collar. A sweater you can almost live in year round.

Krysanthe is a top down crescent shape shawl with optional beads through body, border and bind off edge. She started out as a “Mystery Shawl” with my wonderful testers and not knowing what she was going to look like before she was finished!

Radiance is the perfect pattern for those gorgeous gradient yarns!

On a Slant is my adventure into asymmetrical shawl construction.

Witchy Woman is for me, a black sparkly mysterious shawl that wraps around like a witch’s cape. She’s created with traditional top down panel shaping, a combination of 3,4 or 5 triangular panels for the shape and size desired.

This design is inspired by architectural shapes. I love old buildings, especially cathedrals and churches.

Wedding Belle was inspired by a request from my friend. Her daughter wanted a “vintage” silver shawl with lots of beads for her son’s wedding. When I think of “vintage” my mind goes automatically to the Haapsalu stitch patterns.

Katerina is a crescent shaped shawl, my favorite shape because it’s so versatile. I’ve been wanting to design a pattern (or two or…) using gradient yarns, many of which are fingering weight.

The shifting sands of the desert were my inspiration for this cables and lace design.

My inspiration for this shawl is Ms. Stevie Nicks. A friend went to a recent concert and told me about the many shawls she wears and that I should design one for her. I’ve been a HUGE fan of Ms. Nicks since the 70’s, so I couldn’t resist! She is the ultimate Gypsy sprinkled with Gold Dust ♥

Svanhild roughly translates to warrior swan in Norse mythology.

Cousin Julie, wanted a deep purple shawl with beads with generous coverage and a more traditional style shawl. The rose trellis stitch pattern is a favorite of mine and I’ve been wantingto try a new shaping technique. Roses for Julie is the result!

Carpe Diem means seize the day or moment! This shawl was designed with multicolor, highly variegated yarns in mind, in particular the incredible colors of Wollmeise yarns.

Wings of a Prayer is free indefinitely as we fight our way through Covid-19 until there is a cure/vaccine.

Korinne is inspired by a cardigan I saw while “window” shopping online catalogs one day. I loved the idea of combining cables and lace, my two favorite knitting techniques. I added another twist by adding texture to the body of the cardigan!

This design was knit on the way to Stitches in Chicago to meet up with two wonderful Ravelry friends. It was like we’ve known each other forever and I feel they are my Sisters in Spirit wherever I may be.

A Shawl for Bestemor is dedicated in memory of my Norwegian grandmother, Borghild Holaas, who was a guiding light in my life. “Bestemor” means grandmother in norwegian. She lived to be 100 years old and passed away in 1997.

After many, many hats, I found the combination of yarn, stitch counts and colors to achieve the shape and style I wanted. The bulky yarn makes a very firm felted hat and warm.

This is a pattern for a felted bag, so gauge is not extremely important. There are variations included for using different kinds of yarns and combination of colors.
