My mother used to call me a “busybody”, I was always doing something. It came as no surprise when I wanted to learn to knit at age 8. I’d gotten a book for Christmas called the Make It Book, and there it was: knitting (I still have the book). I did some knitting for Barbie and I think that was just about it until high school. It became fashionable for junior year girls to knit, at least in the circles I hung out with. We liked it so much we persuaded the high school to give us a needlework class for the fall semester. The class was a hoot. But I knew just as much as the teacher. Lucky for me my boyfriend’s mother was a knitter. I could go to her for help. I really haven’t stop knitting since.
28 years ago I was lucky to take a class at the junior college on Spinning and Dyeing! It was all over for me on the first night - I was a spinner. I ended up taking the class 4 times. We learned mainly natural dyeing which differed with the semester. The last night of class we dyed with acid dyes - we sprinkled on multiple colors and didn’t stir the dyepot. I was captivated to say the least. I did some dyeing with friends and at home and then I wanted to earn enough money to buy a Schacht Matchless when they first came out. That was the start of my commercial dyeing.

Now I dye yarn and fiber for sale. I have over 35 multi colorways and also do semi-solids. Please visit my work in progress website to see the colors I dye as well as the yarns and fibers available.

27 years ago I started taking classes at SOAR. I learned from the best: Michele Whiplinger, Deb Menz, Karen Selk, too many to list! At SOAR I learned more about dyeing, and color (thank you Deb MenzJ) as well as spinning. I continue to go to SOAR each year for my yearly fix - this year I will be learning about different sheep breeds with Deb Robson.

I raise silkworms. This year it’ll be about 700.
