Mary R. White
I am an independent pattern and samplemaker, living in the Piedmont area of South Carolina in a little town named Troy. Self-taught to knit at age 9, I followed a different path and became a professional seamstress. I am still employed fulltime in the family business as the office, shipping and handling manager.
Producing patterns is such a wonderful way to be involved in the knitting world. I consider myself to be a fearless knitter and the rebel in me decides to work on projects and patterns that are different and sometimes tedious.
My hope is that my legacy will be a collection of unusual, knitted lace patterns that will inspire someone to dream and experiment with their needles. Although I envy designers whose mere name induces purchase of their patterns, in the long run, the designs that are truly works of art are the ones that teach us to stretch our skills…that expand our queries of what happens if…the ones that may seem confusing on paper but grow within our hands to become projects we are proud to share.
I also enjoy gardening and music. My wonderful grandchildren are my favorite companions and keep me sane.
