Mary R. White
I am an independent, self-employed seamstress involved in pattern & samplemaking, costume making, marine cover repair, light upholstery work and general heavy duty sewing. I live in the Piedmont area of South Carolina in a little town named Troy, working out of my garage and a shop in Chapin, SC, with a collection of tools and machines. Self-taught to knit at age 9, I followed a different path and have worked many jobs but my heart and God given talent always brought be back to sewing.
Producing Knit Lace patterns is such a wonderful way to be involved in the knitting world and allows me to be creative. I consider myself to be a fearless knitter and the rebel in me decides to work on projects and patterns that are different and sometimes tedious.
My hope is that my legacy will be a collection of unusual, knitted lace patterns that will inspire someone to dream and experiment with their needles. Although I envy designers whose mere name induces purchase of their patterns, in the long run, the designs that are truly works of art are the ones that teach us to stretch our skills…that expand our queries of what happens if…the ones that may seem confusing on paper but grow within our hands to become projects we are proud to share.
I also enjoy gardening and music. My wonderful grandchildren are my favorite companions and keep me sane.
