Rebecca Wallace

I taught myself to crochet in 1970. I needed a hobby and crocheting looked interesting. My early projects were typical for the era; granny square afghans, baby blankets and simple shawls.

As much as I loved crocheting I was not inspired by the patterns available and within a few years found myself looking for new challenges. In the early 1980’s I discovered thread, leaned how to read charts and got over my fear of tiny hooks. And for the next twenty five years or so I spent nearly all my crochet time making lace doilies. I longed to make garments too, but sadly most crochet designs were still not inspiring me.

Not so anymore. Crochet has come into its own with fashion savvy designers meeting today’s trends with real style. Crochet is in. It’s hip, it’s cool and I’m flat out excited every time I pick up a hook.

Since those early days I have dabbled in design occasionally jotting down an idea or pattern so I could come back to it later. In the last year occasional turned into frequent and now I feel it is time to step out of my comfort zone and share my efforts.

It is a little scary as I don’t know where this road will lead, but it does seem to be the next step in my crochet journey.
