The deeply textured stitches of Alna remind me of leaves cascading through the air during the fall months. I’ve always enjoyed taking long walks through the autumn forests, watching the leaves change from shades of green to an incredible variety of brilliant colors. And, as the leaves fall to the ground and dry, their texture changes and adds subtle sound effects to each step…

Even though it may look complicated, the Alna pattern is worked only with simple increases and decreases, making this a quick and easy project. The hat and the cowl each require less than 200 yards of worsted or Aran weight yarn and blocking is not necessary, which makes this set a perfect last-minute gift.

This pattern is a part of Texture: Four Hats and Cowls collection, available as a Ravelry e-book.

December 10, 2015 - Pattern update sent out to take the guesswork out of the chart and the pattern instructions for the Alna cowl. This update was posted to the e-book as well. The rest of the pattern remains unchanged.

November 15, 2014 - Pattern update sent out to correct a missing round in the Alna cowl directions and chart - the cowl pattern has 12 rounds, not 11 as originally listed. The rest of the pattern remains unchanged.
