The second pattern in the Lady In Red collection of worsted weight accessories is a hat. You can find the shawl and the mitts here or get the whole e-book for $12.

Basketweave stitch is explained in detail in the pattern.

The Basketweave brim is worked back and forth, the rest of the hat is worked in the round.
