This pattern is for a lovely basic ear warmer, which I decided to name Cara. Ear warmers are a fantastic alternative to hats, and they are super adorable. I only provide the written pattern for the ear warmer itself, but I do provide links to instructions for the crochet flower. This ear warmer could easily be embellished with almost anything- a different flower, buttons, a duplicate stitch design. It’s a blank slate!

It is written to fit an average woman’s head, which is approximately 21 1/2 inches. It is very easy to size up or down, just add more rows or stop knitting sooner. Gauge isn’t really critical, but I do recommend using a needle a size smaller than you usually would for your yarn to make the knit fabric extra squishy and warm.

Berocco Comfort is my favorite easy care yarn, and it comes in a ton of gorgeous colors. It washes up very well and feels great. But any worsted weight yarn will work.

I am terrible at keeping track of yardage in a project, but if you have at least half a skein (approximately 100 yards) of a worsted weight yarn that should be enough. If you’re crocheting a flower you’ll need a few yards of a different color as well.

Happy Knitting!
