This semi-circular shawl is constructed from the top down, starting with a garter tab. A garter ridge runs along the top of the shawl and is separated from the body of the shawl with eyelet ladder created by a yarn over worked on every other row. The shawl has alternating plain and patterned panels and ends in a garter hem. Increases are placed at regular intervals in the body of the shawl to create the semi-circular shape

Checkpoints are included in the pattern to ensure the knitter has the correct number of stitches on the needles after each increase row.

When blocked, the sample shawl, knitted in a wool/silk mix, measures approximately 17.5 inches deep and 50 inches across the span. Knitting in a different yarn mix may affect the blocking abilities of the shawl and thus the finished dimensions.

The shawl can be knitted using just one 100g (400m/440yd)skein of sock weight yarn.
