This shawl works well in both fingering-weight yarn and in a heavy lace weight. A stocking stitch yoke flows into a lace edging. Optional beads are incorporated into the lace and add weight along the bottom edge, creating a beautiful drape and adding glamour.

The large purple sample shawl, knitted in fingering yarn, measures 80” along the top edge (wingspan) and is 25” long at the deepest point. However, the size can be adjusted to be larger or smaller, as the knitter wishes, and instructions are provided in the pattern on how to do this. Instructions are also provided for 3 different bindoffs.

A shawlette measuring approx. 18” (45cms) deep and 62” (158cms) across the wingspan can be knitted with a single 100g skein of 4ply/fingering yarn, 400yds/365m using 4mm, US6 needles. Two skeins will be needed to create all other sizes up to 24” (61cms) deep, 80” (204cms) across the wingspan.

If you prefer using a finer yarn, a shawl with a wingspan up to 75” (192cm) can be knitted with a single 100g skein of heavy lace/3ply yarn, 595yds/650m using 3.75, 4 and 4.5mm (US 5, 6 and 7) needles.
