Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Fall 2008: “In the Estes Vest, Hana Jason blows up hexagon twist-stitch motifs and wide staghorn cables to give the quilted vest a knitterly touch. I-cord edges, toggle closures, and deep pockets keep the vest sporty. Waist shaping keeps a thick fabric flattering, not heavy.”

Finished Size: 33 (36½, 41½, 44½, 49½)” bust circumference, buttoned. Shown in size 33”.

Yarn: Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Bulky (85% wool, 15% mohair; 125 yd 115 m/113 g): #M47 Tahiti teal, 6 (7, 8, 8, 9) skeins.

Needles: Size 10½ (6.5 mm): 32” or longer circular (cir). Size 9 (5.5 mm): 16” and 40” cir. Adjust needle sizes if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Tapestry needle; markers (m); stitch holders; cable needle (cn); row counter (optional); size I/9 (5.5 mm) crochet hook.

Additional Gauge: Center back cable panel measures 6”, slightly stretched.

Note: Work all shaping one stitch in from edges, inside selvedge stitches. If there are not enough stitches to work cable turns for hexagon pattern while working shaping, work stitches in stockinette; work increased stitches into pattern.
