Pattern description from Interweave Knits, Winter 2007: “Hana Jason revisits waist shaping in the Gathered Pullover: Pleated cable crossing in a carefully placed panel create all the shaping in an otherwise straight body tube. A wide, deep V-neck and casually rolled edges finish a plain sweater with one great focal element. Woven cables take on an outlined appearance and narrow the fabric even more when worked over an unusual ribbing sequence.”

Finished Size: 32 (36.25, 40.5, 44.75, 48)“ bust circumference

Yarn: Brown Sheep Top of the Lamb Sport (100% wool; 154 yd 141 m/50 g): #113 grey heather, 7 (8, 9, 10, 11) skeins.

Needles: Size 7 (4.5 mm): 29” circular (cir) and set of 4 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Markers (m); cable needle (cn); stitch holders; tapestry needle.

Notes from Interweave Knits, Winter 2007:
* “The body is worked in the round to the underarm. The work is then split, and the back and two fronts are worked separately. The sleeves are worked in the round to the cap, then the cap is worked flat.”

  • “This sweater is worked at a much larger gauge than the yarn calls for to create a fabric with drape and fluidity. Check your blocked gauge carefully before beginning. When casting on and binding off, do so loosely to match the gauge of the knitted fabric.”
