A lattice flowerbed, stems topped by button blooms and a knit flower to cap it off, this hat is sure to please the little girl in your life.

This is a little girl’s companion to the On the Road Hat requested by my son when he was a toddler.

If you are looking for the sportweight version, see Flower Power 2.0.

The construction of this hat is unique in that the brim is knit sideways and then stitches are picked up along what becomes the top of the brim. The hat is completed in the round beginning with sideways braid. A 6-petal flower is knit separately and sewn to the top.

I suggest two color combinations with either three or four colors, but the sky is the limit. Make it realistic or make it fanciful. Use your imagination. Version 1 uses Wollmeise Pure in 3 different colors: Lila ludmilla, es grünt so grün and Nichts while version 2 contains Elsa, Lila Ludmilla, Nichts and Ooohm. Most fingering yarns of the necessary gauge will do and Wollmeise Twin is certainly an option. Just check your guage.

The yardage amounts are quite similar for each size but the most you should need is the following:

3-Color version:
Color 1 (purple): 20g (70m/77yd)
Color 2 (green): 12g (42m/46yd)
Color 3 (pink): 24g (84m/92yd)
4-Color version:
Color 1 (blue): 18g (63m/69yd)
Color 2 (purple): 12g (42m/46yd)
Color 3 (pink): 6g (21m/23yd)
Color 4 (turquoise): 19g (67m/73yd)

Additional materials: 4-6 large and 15 small flower buttons.
