If you’re diving and aren’t sure which way is up, a popular adage is “Follow the bubbles.” They always go toward the surface, so you too will know which way to go. (Don’t follow them at full speed, though, if you want to avoid decompression sickness.)

The Follow the Bubbles scarf / cowl features a reversible variation of the Cat’s Cradle cable. Since it’s identical on both sides, you don’t need to worry about which way it turns while you wear it. Believe it or not, this piece involves no shaping - the cables do all the work. The ruched “bubbles” hold air for extra warmth. Instructions are included for both scarf and cowl versions. Garter stitch combined with increases, decreases, and cables creates a lush effect.

Colors: Mochi Plus yarn shown in colorways 615 (purple) and 604 (blue/green).

Notions: Cable needle, yarn needle for weaving in ends, spare needle for grafting (cowl only).

Skills: Knit, purl, cables, grafting (cowl only).

Notes: Use any yarn with appropriate needles. Gauge is not critical, but changes may result in more yarn being needed.
