This hat is warm, just a little funky, and so easy to wear. Choose two subtly differently colored yarns for a more sophisticated look. Or choose two yarns with a high level of contrast for a more casual and fun look.

This is a very easy pattern, suitable for beginning knitters, and will provide practice handling two colors of yarn in the same project. Because it uses less than a skein each of two colors, it is also a great “stashbuster” project for more experienced knitters. You’ll want to make more than one just to experiment with gorgeous color combinations!

Materials Required:

  • Bulky/chunky yarn. Approximately 80 yds of main color and 40 yds of contrasting color. The hat featured is knitted in Malabrigo Mecha 63 Natural (MC) and Mecha 875 Arapey (CC).
  • US 8 and US 10 knitting needles
  • 6” fur pompom

Gauge: 19 stitches x 38 rows in Slip Stitch Pattern on larger needle

Finished Dimensions: 20” circumference at lower edge (slightly stretched). Height of hat without pompom is approximately 9” without blocking and with rolled edging laid flat. Will fit head sizes of approximately 20.5” to 22”. The size of the hat can be increased or decreased by adding or subtracting increments of 2 stitches.
