These are my mother’s all-time favourite mitten recipe: warm, colourful, and useful in more than one way. For one, they used up all the scraps of yarn that were left over from the many, many sweaters she would knit for me. But more importantly, being a very playful and adventurous child, I would loose my mittens every other day, and I guess at some point my mother got tired of using her good, expensive yarn to keep my careless fingers warm. I remember the one thing that I loved about these mittens was the way they turned out to be different with every pair she made for me!

This pattern includes step by step instructions on how to make these scrap yarn mittens. Although the mittens are inspired by a very simple pattern, you will need to be able to do the following basics: stockinette stitch, purl stitch, knitting in the round (on either dpns or any other method), decreasing, and picking up stitches.
