This pattern is for a pair of cluster (“smocked”) socks. The stitch itself is a Japanese stitch that is just perfect for socks. There’s enough “give” to make them comfortable, but enough unusual cabling to make them interesting to look at and fun to knit. A small amount of faggotting is added to insure a good fit.

Skill Level: Intermediate (assuming a basic knowledge of knitting and purling, and smocking).

The sock stitch is both charted and written out line by line.

This pattern is written for 2 circular needles and is written for sizes Small, Medium, Large and Extra-large, and is sized by gauge.

The sock pictured here was made with Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock yarn, in colorway, Grapevine.

This pattern was expertly tested by Rebecca Wood. (rkwood16@gmail.com)
