“When I first mentioned the Indie Socks book concept to my friend Yvonne, the mastermind behind Lavender Sheep’s Fiber Garden, I noted that my son was expecting a pair of socks to be named after him (his sister had her namesake socks in my first book, Toe-Up!, and at 5, Owen is very concerned with “fairness”). Yvonne immediately leapt at the chance to design a custom colorway for my book, inspired by my fun-loving little boy. The Owen colorway is a semi-solid consisting of gorgeous shades of my Owen’s favorite color, blue. It was a true challenge to design a sock that works well with the high-contrast blue-and-white bamboo blend yarn, so I decided to keep it simple and somewhat boyish with easy cable columns interrupted by occasional rounds of garter stitch. A fold-over cuff is inspired by manly work socks and the pattern is sized to fit the whole family, It can be worked either top-down or toe-up for ultimate flexibility.”
