From book: The painting (1892-3) shows the acceptance by Tahitians of this unconventional Parisian artist - they carry on with their bathing seemingly oblivious of Gauguin’s careful scrutiny of their everyday lives. He painted his greatest works in Tahiti having fount the tropical paradise of his dreams.

This summer dress is shaped to reflect the voluptuous curves of the main figure. The back of the dress shows the seated figure - the only one not joining in the fun.
