I was given this absolutely beautiful fiber. It was incredibly soft and oh so special. What was this fiber? It was Royal Suri Alpaca fiber from Peru. I was only given a small amount (less than an ounce) so I knew I wanted to make something special with it once it was spun up. I chose to spin it on my Siberian Russian spindles. The resulting yarn was incredible. Very soft and it had a nice halo. The spun yarn is what inspired this pattern. I wanted something that would showcase the yarn without hiding the lovely lace pattern. I also wanted something that lent itself very nicely to beading. I took the yarn with when I went to pick out and purchase beads. I wanted a bead that would flatter the yarn without overpowering it. I wanted a bead that was subtle, yet would surprise you with a bit of sparkle. The end result is Peruvian Diamonds.

This is a wonderful pattern in which to knit until you run out of yarn. Be sure to weigh your yarn before you start. Weigh it again after you have completed the 6 row garter stitch border. This will tell you about how much yarn you will need for the 6 row garter stitch border on the other end, plus the bind off.

While I knit my scarf using a handspun alpaca lace weight yarn, it would look lovely in a commercial yarn as well. A heavier weight yarn may be used. Just keep in mind that the yardage required will vary with the weight of yarn being used.

The pattern is charted with written instructions. The finished scarf measured 7” wide by 47” long.
