This is the twentieth pattern release for the 7 Hats More ebook.

The Swirl is a versatile bit of knitting that can be made small and worn like a dickie, a little something around your shoulders and neck.

Or the Swirl can be knit longer to make a poncho.

There are three neckline options, crew neck – small sample, wide neck – poncho sample, and mock turtleneck – not shown.
It all depends on how you start!

The Swirl is a perfect circle. It increases at eight points every other round. This increase pattern moves the detail pattern in such a way that the detail pattern swirls a little around the body. Because of the way it is constructed it will fit pretty much any shape or size. This type of increasing creates a perfect circle.

I think the Swirl would make a gorgeous little skirt!

The Swirl can be finished with an attached I-cord bind-off in a looping point pattern as in the dickie sample or a simple 2 x 2 ribbing as in the poncho sample. Because the Swirl is knit from the top down you can stop after any twelve-row pattern repeat to make the Swirl the perfect length for you!

P.S. It looks great with the Seed and Leaf Hat.

Materials: Small Swirl – 400 m fingering weight yarn, sample was knit with Freia Shawl Ball Merino in the Dusk colourway. Large swirl – 750 m sport weight yarn, sample was knit with Rowan Felted Tweed. Both Swirls – 4.0mm circs 16, 24, and 32-inch lengths, markers, and the regular notions.

Note – if wishing the mock turtleneck finish, a 3.5mm US #4 16-inch circ is required.

Pithy design options for a skirt are included.

Two of the pictures show the pieces on top of each other, just to help determine the differences when choosing options.
