Simple Newborn Hat with Flower by Laurinda Reddig

Simple Newborn Hat with Flower

A basic hat small enough for a newborn, designed to teach beginners the Magic Loop, working in the round, increasing, and decreasing. Working in double crochets makes the finished hat a little more stretchy than shorter single crochet stitches would be. This is a very small hat, ideal for newborns or donating to babies in the NICU. You would need a larger size for older babies and toddlers, not included in this pattern.

I was inspired to include an easy flower pattern by a crocheter in Germany who was the first person to complete Rowan’s Learn to Crochet Sampler when we did the Crochet Along in 2011. She added flowers to each point on her sampler where four of the squares came together. This simple flower is designed to teach working into a chain ring, and looks sweet attached to the little hat.
