Even the beginner can accomplish this understated, elegant look. Required skills: cast on, knit, purl, bind off.

This scarf is a simple, quick knit that looks much more ‘put together’ than unmitigated garter stitch. It is nicely reversible, doesn’t curl and can be striped any way you want depending on how much you have of each color. Worked in a solid color the stitch pattern develops into a textural pinstripe that can even be quite masculine in select colors.

This is a scarf, so gauge is not as important as your satisfaction with the resulting fabric. Needle size should be adjusted to get a width in the vicinity of 5 or 6 inches.

This design was inspired by and fits the criteria of the Scarves for Special Olympics Washington State Games. It is my hope that those who take advantage of the free download will make up at least one scarf for donation to a charitable cause.

Thank you to Cindy Harrison. She is the test knitter of my dreams.
