This pretty little shawl features a pop of accent color separating the garter stitch body from the border. Little bow ties form the border into a scalloped edge with no tricky knitting required! If you do not have a few yards of accent color in your stash, this shawl looks just as sweet with accents worked in the main color; just remember to hold out that yardage.

Pattern is 3 pages long and is suitable for a knitter who can knit, purl, pick up stitches along an edge, and keep track of a 4 row repeat. The specific increases used and the i-cord ties are explained in the directions. As with all my patterns, it has been test knit and professionally tech edited to be clear and free of errors.

One size: 48 in/122 cm wide X 16 in/43 cm deep. Measurements are easily altered, though may require different amounts of yarn.

Gauge: 22 sts and 46 rows/ 4in/10cm over garter stitch

What you need:

  • String Theory Caper Sock; (80% superwash merino wool, 10% cashmere, 10% Nylon - 400 yd/366 m per 4 oz/113 g skein); MC: #3441 - Light Teal; 1 skein and CC: #2862 - Muninn; 1 skein. Or approx 400yds/366 m MC and 328 yds/300 m CC of a similar sock weight yarn.

  • 35 yds/32 m of a third color sock or fingering weight yarn for accents. (Sample shown used String Theory Bluestocking; (80% superwash Blue Faced Leicester wool, 20% nylon - 420 yds/384 m per 4 oz/113g skein); #4002 Azalea.

  • One 32 in/80 cm circular needle in size required to obtain gauge. I used US #5/3.75mm. You may need a size or two above or below that.

  • 2 dpns, size US#2/2.75mm, for i-cord ribbons.

  • 2 stitch markers

  • 1 clip on marker or safety pin

  • Large eyed, blunt yarn needle
