I wanted to make a toque (otherwise known as a beanie with earflaps) for my 1 year old son. I had a hard time finding a pattern that actually fitted him, so I made my own. There are a variety of cute hats out there for toddlers - this one has two slug antennae, one big googly eye and a tooth that sticks out - to recognise that my son is teething like crazy right now.

This pattern can be made in any colour you want. You can customise your slug monster so that each one is unique by making different numbers of eyes, antennae and teeth. It makes a great gift and it is so quick to crochet up that I finished it in a day. The secret? A big hook! Enjoy.
